3M Peltor X-Series Cap-Mount Earmuffs, Black/Green, X1P3E, help protect hearing with a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 21 dB for low-to-moderate noise exposures where overprotection is a concern. When correctly selected and worn, these hearing protection products help reduce exposure to hazardous levels of noise and loud sounds. Specifically designed to enhanced worker comfort, these earmuffs combine a lightweight design with soft contact points and adjustability. This hearing protection accessory fits a wide range of industrial safety hard hats, including 3M™ H-700 Series Hard Hats, and it attaches directly to many hard hats without an adapter. Individual wearers can customize the fit of these hearing protectors with the adjustable earcups that tilt. Soft and wide cushions help the earmuffs seal comfortably around the ears, a feature that potentially can increase hearing protection compliance by workers working in environments where hearing protection may be required. Easy-to-replace cushions and inserts help prolong the life of the earmuffs and keep them clean.
Suggested applications and worksites for these earmuffs include metal processing, automotive, airports, construction, textile manufacturing, chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing, cement manufacturing, printing, woodworking, heavy engineering, foundry, steelworks, mining, and quarrying.
For the convenience of the wearer, the earcups may be placed in three different positions, including 1) the usage position with the ear cups against the ears, 2) the stand-by position with the earcups pulled slightly away from the ears, and 3) the storage position with the earcups pulled up and toward the back of the hard hat. This 3-position system allows taking off the earmuffs without removing the hard hat, which will help workers in hard hat zones where loud noises increase and decrease frequently.
Exposure to loud noises can adversely affect the ability to hear over time. Wearing proper hearing protection devices can help in reducing the harmful effects of noise. Sounds levels are expressed in decibels, often abbreviated as dB. Higher decibel numbers indicate louder sounds. Typical decibel levels associated with common sounds include: outdoors with no people or traffic 20 dB, normal conversation 60 dB, power lawn mower 90 dB, chain saw 110 dB, and 12-gauge shotgun 165 dB. The hearing protector NRR can be used to evaluate different hearing protection options. However, the actual level of protection varies depending on fit, wearing time and other factors.
